With our absolute highest compliments Bay Colony Antiques takes the utmost pleasure in offering this wonderful antique file cabinet. In the past several years we have seen demand dramatically rise for premium antique oak office furniture as more Americans are working from home and choosing to surround themselves with the finest options available. Typically, our oak files are purchased shortly after they are put up for sale and it has been an increasing challenge to keep one or two options available in our catalogue at any given time. The antique file cabinet we now presently offer is truly as fine as they come and will serve the needs of its next owner reliably for generations to come.
This file cabinet is entirely comprised of solid quartersawn tiger oak which has remained the premier material for constructing office files since the end of the 19th century. Each of the four drawers is fitted with solid antique brass hardware including: an index name plate, a sturdy drawer pull handle, and an index file rod which retracts into the bottom of every drawer. Every side is designed with frame and panel construction which ensures the longevity of the file cabinet as the panels are allowed to float within the framework so that seasonal expansion and contraction of the woodwork is never an issue. Quite often file cabinets built in a different fashion are prone to developing splits and cracks that are unsightly and compromise the integrity of the overall piece. The entire case of the file cabinet has remained in exceptional condition with every component being sturdy and reliable. Overall, the cabinet has developed a beautiful patina resulting in a rich and desirable color that only time can create. The file cabinet measures 27 1/2" in depth from the protruding handle to the very back of the case and 17 3/4" wide from left to right. The cabinet stands 52" tall and the drawers have usable interior storage space measuring 12" wide x 10" tall. less
