The object is a vessel for Ikebana that is thrown on the potter's wheel. The potter is very skillful to produce a dark glaze that has varying shades of dark greens. He also produced a texture that resembled the skeletal structure of a large leaf. The opening for the Ikebana pot is off centered, with the flower arrangement set in the "frog" the look is much more interesting. The potter included a few pieces of glazed circular disks for display. His mark is stamped at the bottom's edge.
I met this potter whose name I have forgotten at a show at the Merchandise Mart in Chicago. It was in the 2000's. His pottery was very artistic and unusual. This well potted Ikebana pot shows off his techniques and creativity. less
