An Extremely Attractive And Very Good Quality 18th Century, George III Period, Mahogany Dressing Table Mirror, with Shield Shaped Swing Plate, Over Well Figured And Rare Double Concave, Two Drawer Base with Crossbanded And Strung Decoration, Raised On Original Ogee Feet.
Often referred to as “toilet mirrors”, dressing table mirrors were made from the beginning of the 18th Century onwards.
Designed to sit atop a dressing table, or chest of drawers, in the bedroom or dressing room they are found in a huge variety of sizes, woods, shapes, sizes and qualities.
This is a nice example, George III and constructed from attractive well figured mahogany timbers which retain a good colour and surface. It is also an extremely unusual shape with the double concave design adding great charm and elegance to the overall look of the piece.
Although originally designed to sit on top of a dressing table it is of course most versatile and would suit a whole variety of locations around the home.
The overall condition is good with just the expected old marks, scuffs, scrapes and historic scratches which have all blended into the surface and patina now. The mirror plate is a replacement but has been in place for a significant number of years. There is also one historic repair to a foot which can be seen quite clearly in the images supplied.
As with all items we offer for sale this Georgian Mahogany Butlers Tray has been inspected and attended to in our workshops by our highly skilled, specialist trained, antique furniture restorers and received a natural wax polish before being offered for sale to ensure that it is in excellent condition and ready for immediate placement within the home.
