With our absolute highest compliments Bay Colony Antiques takes the utmost pleasure in presenting this wonderful antique drafting table. We are incredibly proud of our present offering as it is perhaps the best example of an antique drafting which we have been able to secure in a considerable amount of time. This table is perfectly suited for modern day use and remains as practical and functional as ever. Originally an architect or artist would have used this table to render their work with the requirement that they would need to sit or stand at it for extended periods of time and that it would need to adjust to varying needs. The drafting table can be made to tilt perfectly flat as well as entirely forward with a 90 degree range of motion made possible by the mounting mechanism which is complete with a gearwork rotating cam that is made to be secured with a locking thumbscrew. The height is made to be adjustable with a telescoping shaft which is secured by a larger rotating thumbscrew fastening mechanism. This feature allows an individual to either sit or stand at the table for an extended period of time.
The work surface is comprised of an oak writing board that is original and has remained in fine condition having been left entirely undisturbed. The cast iron base is designed with a column pedestal and three snake legs which end on rounded stylized feet. The original paint surface remains in excellent condition and is painted to emulate an antique bronze patina that genuinely has developed a patina of its own throughout the past century and a half. We believe this drafting table to be one of the finest made during the Victorian period and have full confidence that an educated collector will ultimately make a permanent home for this remarkable antique. When the drafting table is adjusted all the way up and the writing surface is tilted perfectly flat the height is 42" tall and when the top is tilted upright all the way the height becomes 48 3/4" tall. When the table is adjusted down to its lowest height setting the height becomes 29 1/4" with the writing surface set perfectly flat and 36" tall with the writing surface tilted upright. The oak writing surface measures 24" wide x 22 1/4" tall and the tripod base measures 21" long overall. less
