Dunhuang is located in Gansu Province, China, on the edge of the Taklamakan Desert and the Gobi Desert. The Mingsha Shan dunes are famous for their towering sand formations, which can reach heights of up to 250 meters (820 feet) and produce a "singing" sound when the sand shifts under certain conditions. less
