Beautifully aged and weathered late 19th century Japanese Meiji period four-panel byobu screen featuring a scene from the Tale of Genji. (Chaper 3: Utsusemi) the screen is crafted in the Nihonga school style with ink and color pigments on hand-crafted mulberry paper decorated with gold flecks. The finish has an aged patina which is faded with small losses throughout that add to its wabi-sabi aesthetic. The painting is set in a black painted frame with a faded silk brocade border. The painting has green, blue, and red color pigments that have a desirable age and stand out against the gilt highlights. From an estate in San Francisco, CA.
