Captivating 19th century Japanese Meiji period six-panel folding byobu screen depicting a bamboo landscape bordering a lily pond. The painting features delicate ink and natural color pigments over a dramatic silver leaf square background with an aged patina. There is a small hidden king fisher bird perched in the bamboo over white lily flowers in the pond. Painted in the Nihonga school style and illegibly signed by the artist on the left with a seal. The painting is set in a black lacquered wood frame. The finish has a desirable faded, aged patina and the silver leaf has faded into a dark charcoal hue. From an estate in San Francisco, CA.
