A Dutch 'doofpot' was a pot to store partially extinguished burning wood, coal, and ashes. Once the lid was in place the pot would become airtight, halting the burning process due to a lack of oxygen. In a medieval Dutch wooden homes, the habitual use of the 'doofpot' was very important to prevent fire.

This piece is in good condition with the expected wear throughout.
