box with lid in majolica ceramic, handcrafted on a lathe without a mould, glazed with full-bodied and compact glazes, decorated entirely by hand, with geometric decorations, lines and circles, airbrushed in futuristic style. Signed under the base with the manufacturer's incised mark, a c and two houses immediately above. The box can be dated to the first half of the 20th century, between 1950 and 1960 and was made by the german manufacturer carstens-tönnieshof. The ring lid knob is also beautiful, again in a futuristic style.
information on the artist and/or manufacturer:
in 1892, brothers christian and ernst carstens opened a ceramics factory in brandenburg, eastern germany. In 1947 the name of the factory changed to carstens-tönnieshof and the factory moved to western germany. After 30 years, the brothers further expanded production by opening factories in austria, australia and south america, and in 1984 they closed permanently. The main designers were trude carstens, heinz siery, gerda heuckeroth, dieter peter, helmut scholtis, rudolph christmann and a. Seide. The first ceramics made had simple shapes and colours. More complex patterns, workmanship and colors were developed by trude (wife of ernst) carstens in the mid-1950s. Furthermore, at the end of the 1950s, shapes and decorations with geometric motifs were also developed, an example is the carmen relief series from 1958 or the objects created by heinz siery and gerda heuckeroth, some examples can be found in the limited series brasilia and manilla . this piece has an attribution mark,
