Hita Kogei: World-class Furniture Art Hita Kogei is known as one of the most famous furniture factories in Japan. The attention to craftsmanship and eye for detail are tangible and visible in every phase of the production process, from design and construction to the choice of materials. The quality of the furniture they produce is comparable to, or even better than, that of Scandinavian design furniture from the higher segment. The use of high-quality teak wood with a fine texture due to intensive processing invites you to touch and caress. The frame design, with its soft curves and clean lines, ensures that the furniture is beautiful to look at from every angle. The chairs from Hita Kogei are special in terms of dimensions; they are slightly wider and lower than Scandinavian chairs, making them perfect for use on the now popular Danish vintage tables. History and Influence Hita Kogei, based in Saitama Prefecture, Japan, rose to fame in the 1970s as a Japanese manufacturer representing the Scandinavian style. Although furniture production has stopped after half a century, the furniture remains very popular on the Japanese vintage market. This type of chair in particular is praised as the pinnacle of Modern Japanese Design and as a highlight in locally produced teak furniture. In recent years, the appreciation for these exclusive chairs has increased significantly due to the popularity of Mid Century Design. Hita Kogei exported very little, in Japan its furniture has also remained very exclusive due to production in small series, but rarely does a set of 4 chairs come onto the market in Europe, which is why these chairs are extremely rare in our part of the world. A Legacy to Pass On Hita Kogei is known as the creators of the pinnacle of Japanese furniture art. The furniture is not only items to cherish, but also to pass on to future generations. It's clear why Hita Kogei is such a prominent name in the world of design and craftsmanship when you take a closer look at these chairs in real life in a photo. About this set of 4 chairs This set of 4 chairs has recently been prepared for a new life in our studio with the greatest care and respect for their history and appearance. They were purchased as design objects by an older Dutch couple in the mid-1990s for their then home in Japan. The set came with them to the Netherlands halfway through the last decade and is now passed on to a new generation of enthusiasts. The wood has been completely cleaned and given a new protective coating and has a beautiful deep color again. The upholstery, made of genuine leather and in an aubergine/brown color tone, is still completely original and supple, completely cleaned and has an attractive patina that only real vintage leather can show. A rare asset for true design enthusiasts who would like to place an exclusive set of chairs in their interior.
