"Gladis La Glamurosa" (2017) is a striking oil on canvas by contemporary spanish artist Inés Silvalde, measuring 73 x 100 cm. This work exemplifies Silvalde’s exploration of the female body as a central motif, particularly focusing on themes of self-perception, emotional depth, and identity. The painting depicts a female subject immersed in a contemplative state, her expression revealing layers of introspection and subtle tension. The composition is anchored by a dramatic juxtaposition of muted skin tones and a rich, dark background, interrupted by a vivid fuchsia element that cascades onto the figure, creating a compelling visual tension. Silvalde’s technical approach is rooted in her profound understanding of traditional painting techniques, enhanced by her continuous experimentation with contemporary visual codes. The interplay of light and shadow across the figure’s form reflects her mastery of rendering volume and texture, drawing attention to the subtleties of the human body. The fuchsia element, bold and almost surreal, disrupts the scene, inviting interpretations about transformation, individuality, and the contrast between the external and internal worlds. This painting forms part of Silvalde’s broader inquiry into the female experience, a recurring theme in her practice. In her statement, the artist emphasizes the use of the human figure as a vehicle for emotional storytelling and self-exploration, often working with elements of vulnerability and strength in tandem. The subject in Gladis La Glamurosa appears simultaneously grounded and otherworldly, an embodiment of Silvalde’s ability to capture complex psychological states. This work is ideal for collectors of contemporary figurative art who value technically skilled, conceptually rich pieces that provoke thought and engagement. It is a unique opportunity to own a painting that encapsulates Silvalde’s artistic ethos and her commitment to exploring the multifaceted nature of the human condition. About Inés Silvalde Inés Silvalde Videla is a multidisciplinary artist born in 1983 whose practice centers on the exploration of the human figure, with a particular focus on the female form, as a medium for introspection and emotional resonance.
