Jean-Gérard Buckens (1805 – 1859) was a Belgian bronze caster from Antwerp. Not much is known about Buckens. He worked together with / or on behalf of or in the service of Fonderie (foundry) Réquille et Pecqueur from Liège. This company manufactured a wide spectrum of items, including fireplaces for apartments.
One of the ornaments of the stove is marked "Réguile & Pecqueur", another ornament "Propriété J.G. Buckens". Probably Buckens was the owner of this wood stove of which he cast the parts himself. In "Le Canada et l'Expositon universelle de 1855", page 347, mention is made of "M.M. Réquilé et Pecqueur et Buckens de Belgique" as a participant in this exhibition.
Dimensions: height 127 cm, width 113/134 cm (excl./incl. base plate for the stove), depth 71 cm.
