The back of the stand uses nails bent over rather than more modern staples, and the front has non-factory flat-head screws, which helps to date the piece. It is very lightweight and easy to move around, yet quite sturdy and balanced- this would be a fun to use as a magazine or book stand, recipe stand in the kitchen, or simply a creative display for a piece of art or decorative book such as my 1860's music book featured here (also for sale). less
