- This stunning and unique table showcases much of what made Art Deco-period furniture so attractive and enduring. It features waterfall … more This stunning and unique table showcases much of what made Art Deco-period furniture so attractive and enduring. It features waterfall edges on each end and sensuous curves around the edges of its dual compartments, which may have been intended for cigars but would work well for cocktail napkins or coasters. The freely sitting lids of these compartments are one of my favorite details, including translucent maroon Bakelite handles which firmly anchor the piece to it's 1930's origin. A an original and quite thick rectangular piece of glass sits freely in perfectly matched notches, connecting the two storage compartments and providing a surface that would be ideal for storing multiple liquor bottles or sipping coffee. This creates a second surface below which allows one to admire the gorgeous grain of the honey brown wood, and could be used to store glasses, an ice bucket, magazines, or any number of items. The table is sturdily built yet reasonably lightweight and easy to transport, and its compact size makes it very versatile. This piece was clearly cherished and very well-cared for over the years, bringing it right to today's surging Art Deco design revival.
