Extraordinary table designed by osvaldo borsani and produced by the company of the same name arredamenti borsani varedo abv in the late 1940s.
the base of the table is made of finely crafted mahogany wood elements resting on a yellow marble base.
the splendid table is completed by an original white carrara marble top.
the other tables of the same model that can be viewed online or at auction house results all have a bevel on the edge of the top that is not molded but v-shaped. By doing further research, it was discovered that borsani, at the beginning of his production, also made tables with a molded bevel, such as the game table with committed drawings present in the villa borsani museum collection in varedo, and therefore, thanks to this detail we know that the table remains one of the first examples of its production.
excellent general condition with some tiny signs of aging given its almost 80 years.
we would like to point out only a single, tiny chip in the marble in the lower part of the top, which is difficult to see unless you bend down, as shown in the photographs.

osvaldo borsani (1911-1985) was a renowned italian designer and architect, known for his significant influence in the world of interior design and furnishings. Born in varedo, italy, osvaldo borsani worked in collaboration with his brother, fulgenzio borsani, to found the furniture company "arredamenti borsani varedo" in 1953.
borsani contributed significantly to 20th century design, with particular attention to modern furniture and innovation in materials and production techniques. His career has been marked by a variety of projects, including furniture, lamps and furnishing accessories.
osvaldo borsani has obtained numerous awards throughout his career, significantly contributing to the elevation of italian style on the international design scene. His work is often associated with the aesthetics of the modern era, and his creations continue to be sought after and appreciated by collectors and lovers of vintage design.
the atelier borsani in varedo is closely linked to the figure of osvaldo borsani, one of the most influential italian designers and architects of the 20th century, known for his ability to combine artisan tradition and industrial innovation. Located in varedo, in the province of monza and brianza, the heart of italian furniture production, the atelier represented excellence in the creation of custom-made furniture, an activity started in the 1920s by abv - arredamenti borsani varedo, founded by gaetano borsani , father of osvaldo. The company stood out for the high quality of its products, often destined for the lombard bourgeoisie.
osvaldo borsani, after graduating in architecture from the polytechnic of milan, introduced a modern and rationalist vision into the family business, combining artisanal skills with new design trends. He collaborated with artists and craftsmen, creating furniture that combined functionality and aesthetics, in line with the principles of italian rationalism. In 1953, together with his brother fulgenzio, he founded tecno, a company that marked an important turning point. Tecno specialized in the industrial production of furniture, following a philosophy based on functionality and versatility. Among tecno's most iconic products is the d70 sofa bed, presented at the milan triennale in 1954 and winner of prestigious international awards.
although the abv atelier has gradually given way to tecno's activity, it still represents a symbol of the artisan tradition and excellence of italian design. The furniture and projects created in the atelier are today highly appreciated by collectors and bear witness to a crucial moment in the history of design, marking the transition from traditional craftsmanship to modern industrial design and embodying the innovative spirit of made in italy.
