A gorgeous early 1900's vintage portrait of a gentleman in hat is a recent purchase from France.. Though we always look to dates and times of creation, there is something exquisite in the nod and glance of this portrait to just appreciate the maker, artistry and magnificent mark making. And though we do revere each stroke and subtlety of shading, there is a beauty and mystery to the numerals at top right of the drawing. To note, there are watermarks on this work displaying "MBM Frances" and " Ingres D'Arches" - noting the origin of this classic laid paper from one of the historic mills in France. You can see the texture through every stroke and gesture. Please note, like all of us as we age, has minor bumps, subtle fold lines and areas showing paper age.
This piece comes with an archival acid-free mat and foamcore backing. less
