A good American nautical oil on canvas painting of ships in a harbor, by the celebrated California artist Stephen Mirich (b. 1954).
The painting depicts five tall sailing ships moored in a harbor wharf on an overcast day, the ships are surrounded by harbor buildings, the buildings to the far background with oil lamp light shining through the windows.
The painting is signed lower right and is housed in the original gilded frame, condition is excellent, this fine nautical painting is ready gto hang on your wall.
Stephen Mirich was born in 1954 in San Pedro, California and began competing and exhibiting in art events regularly by the age of fifteen. In college, he briefly studied architecture, then focused on a career in fine art. He studied under the noted artist, Theodore N. Lukits (1897-1992) at the Lukits Academy of Fine Arts, Los Angeles. He also studied privately with Julian Ritter (1909-2000).
Mirich gained national recognition with his marine and historic maritime paintings. In 1995, he started to focus on landscape painting en plein air. Stephen Mirich often sketches and paints from nature combining his enjoyment for the outdoors with his love for art.
The artist has been widely exhibited nationwide including;
California Art Club’s Mission San Juan Capistrano, Gold Medal Exhibitions; The California Wetlands, and the Treasures of the Sierra Nevada exhibition, held at the Natural History Museum of Los Angeles County; Muckenthaler Cultural center in Fullerton, California and at the Springville Museum of Art in Springville, Utah; Coos Bay Art Museum in Coos Bay, Oregon, the Los Angeles Maritime Museum, the Newport Nautical Museum the San Diego Maritime Museum, and at the Columbia River Maritime Museum in Astoria, Oregon less
