wonderful charles x candlestick made of mercury-gilded bronze, in 19th century france. This is a classic style candlestick made of gilded bronze. The piece features a stylized vertical structure that culminates in a decorative receptacle to hold a candle. The base is especially notable, made up of three legs made with a zoomorphic design that imitates the hoof of a goat, each one with precise detail in the curves and contours. Between the legs is an ornate central surface reminiscent of a stylized vine leaf.
the main body of the candlestick develops into a long, thin stem, which includes engraved textures and lines. The candle holder at the top has a geometric decoration with triangular reliefs. Although it retains decorative elements such as the claw-shaped legs and the organic design of the base, the candlestick avoids overloading the motifs, which is characteristic of this more sober style compared to rococo or baroque.
ormolú is an alloy of bronze and gold gilded with mercury. After being cast, it is chiseled to achieve the small details that add realism to the piece. For its part, charles napoleonic, during which rigor and simplicity were united with greco-roman art. In fact, artistic fields flourished in a whole new way. In terms of decoration, this renovation was distinguished by its softer lines.
