Ricky Hunt’s mixed media minimalist paintings are influenced by his tumultuous past that led to a paradigm shift in his creative practice. His works evoke the many layers of his life. Philosophy, mathematics, scientific theory, poetry and astronomy are a few of the themes that run through his paintings and he expresses it with a unique process; adding and subtracting visual elements. Scratching, scribbles, and manipulated layers can be witnessed beneath a clean, glossy coating of resin. Hunt describes his contemporary imagery as, “Chaotic order pouring from the watery depths of my unconscious”. Beneath the water, one can see the chaotic realm of the artist pushing through.
This vibrant one-of-a-kind minimalist painting on wood is 48 inches tall by 12 inches wide. It is double-wired, allowing for versatile hanging options. It can be displayed vertically with either color on top, providing flexibility in orientation. The front is covered with resin while the sides are painted in a separate process, allowing the viewer to see both sides of the artist. It does not require framing. It is signed and titled on the back of the artwork. It can be installed vertically as well as horizontally. Free local Los Angeles delivery. Affordable US and international shipping is available. A certificate of authenticity issued by the gallery is included.
Hunt's works reflect how he brought order into the chaos of his earlier existence. He covers wood panels with layers of acrylic paint, removing some layers in the process to reveal the underlying evolution of color. His works evoke the many layers of his life. The top layer is covered with resin, adding a smooth reflective finish to the intriguing depth of his surfaces.
Ricky Hunt lives in Los Angeles. A brief period of drug addiction in the 1980's led to a term of incarceration for the artist. This in turn led to the discovery of his artistic talent and personal transformation through the love of art. He found inspiration in artists such as Jean-Michel Basquiat, Keith Haring and Mark Rothko. Hunt began to teach himself to draw in 1995. Nine months later Tiger Woods’ father Earl, commissioned a pastel portrait which he described as “the best portrait of Tiger ever painted”. From this traditional foundation in fine art, Hunt's work transformed into the contemporary painting approach seen today.
Ricky Hunt's international success started with his first sold-out exhibition at Artspace Warehouse in Los Angeles in 2016, which led to an international collector base and exhibitions worldwide. Notable private collectors include Kelly Clarkson, Graeme Hart, Sonia Livingstone, and Charles Harder. less
