Founding the company

Public offering
In 1987, Vernon became the first woman to found a company publicly traded on the American Stock Exchange.
Philanthropy
Vernon was a philanthropist who served on the boards of several non-profit organizations. She also gifted the Lillian Vernon Creative Writers House to New York University, which houses the university's creative writing program.
Legacy
