This exceptional two-tier red-toned lacquered wood lunch box from the Shanxi province is an outstanding example of 19th century Chinese ingenuity. The box was purchased personally in Shanghai and it is believed to have been crafted between 1865-1899. It was used to transport food and other items.
It measures 15” (to top of handle) X 14” W X 8” Deep adn has wear commensurate with its age.
