Gorgeous tonalist colored landscape of a Southern California's Baldy Mountain with dirt road and beautiful tall trees by Eugene (Jene) Jackman (American, 1910-1970). 1937. Known as Jene the artist signed his works "Jene' " for Eugene. "Signed "Jene' " lower right. Presented in rustic wood frame. Image, 36"H x 42.5"L.
This signature "Jene" has been confirmed to be Eugene Jackman by the artist's granddaughter.
Born in New York, Eugene “Jene” was the son of artists Violet and Oscar Jackman. He came to southern California with his parents in 1914. Raised in an artistic milieu, he began painting as a small child. By 1930 he had settled in Glendale and was an accomplished painter of the landscape near his home. He sometimes used the pseudonym Eugene Disney Jackman. less
