A beautiful large antique cream-colored pitcher adorned with hand painted/enameled flowers and leaves accented with gold. Note the unusual texture - created when the artist presses lace or other fabric into the wet clay to create a decorative floral feel. This technique was developed by John Slater, which he patented in the late 1800’s (see mark on bottom of pitcher).
Born in 1844, John Slater was the Art Director at Doulton & Co, Burslem from 1887 until his death in 1914. He was involved in the development of many of the special glazes and techniques including the Doulton & Slaters Patent.
An absolutely rare piece in excellent condition.
