Crazing consistent with age. Extensive wear to the gilt finish on both handles. SMALL VASE: Crazing consistent with age. Some wear to the gilt finish, and the gilt wear is extensive on both handles. Very small glancing chip off of the ruffled top rim. I have a strong suspicion that the base was broken off in the distant past and reattached. I might be wrong, as the repair (if it is one) is very, very good. I've taken close-up photos of that area of the vase, so you can judge for yourself. If it is a repair, only you will know it is there. PLATE: This piece has no chips, cracks, or unusual wear. Looks like it has sat in someone's china cabinet its entire life. Absolutely lovely. less

Offered here are TWO Meiji period Satsuma vases made in Japan, likely just prior to 1900. Moriage and gilt embellishments. Foo dog handles. I am also including a small Shuzan Satsuma Ware plate.
LARGE VASE: Depicts female Japanese faces. No chips, cracks, or unusual wear. Crazing consistent with age. Extensive wear to the gilt finish on both handles. Stands about 16" tall and has a footprint of about 4 3/4" in diameter.
I've taken three close-up photos of that vase, turning it to different areas so you can judge for yourself. If it is a repair, only you will know it is there. Stands about 9 1/2" tall and has a footprint of about 2.9" in diameter.
PLATE: This is also a Satsuma Ware piece by Shuzan (translates to "Old Satsuma). Shuzan exported their pieces to Europe and the U.S. around 100 years ago. This piece dates sometime between the late Meiji period to the Taisho period. Measures about 3 1/2" in diameter. This piece has no chips, cracks, or unusual wear. Looks like it has sat in someone's china cabinet its entire life. Absolutely lovely. less
