Lamp base in majolica stoneware, very hard ceramic, modeled entirely by hand on a lathe and glazed with porous, full-bodied and compact, extremely hard enamels, with a decorative effect in various shades of green, hand-signed under the base by the artist in full " Raul Lachenal". The vase can be dated to the first half of the 20th century, between 1910 and 1930. The artistic quality of the proposed object is beyond question, notice how the surface, entirely modeled by hand, is a perfect oval and the stoneware is of the highest quality , masterfully enamelled in various shades of green.
Information on the artist and/or manufacturer:
Raoul Lachenal (1885–1956) was a French potter, he worked in his father's (Edmond) studio until 1911, when he founded his own workshop in Boulogne-sur-Seine. While some of his Art Nouveau ceramics resemble his father's pieces, in the second part of his artistic career he produced artistic stoneware objects that are distinguished by the sophisticated use of conventional patterns and the layering of high-temperature glazes. His ceramic creations can be compared to those of Renaissance titans of French artistic ceramics, such as Ernest Chaplet or Albert Dammouse. Lachenal first exhibited his Art Nouveau stoneware in the salons of Paris in 1904, and is considered one of the most important French ceramists of the first decades of the 20th century.
