Splendid stepped box with three individual … more Campaign basket / lunch box, lacquered wood and porcelain, pp. 20th century - China
Splendid stepped box with three individual compartments and a wide handle that makes it easy to transport, made around the first third of the 20th century. These boxes have their origin in Japan, known as Jūbako or sagejūbako and used both to store and preserve food, possibly reaching China through trade contacts between both countries. It is made of black lacquered wood and with plant decorations made by hand using mainly green, red and gold colors. The lid has a piece of porcelain inserted that follows the style of the “Pink Family”, developed during the Qing dynasty starting in the 18th century and being thus named in Europe due to the novelty of this color in the already existing palette of greens, yellows, reds and blues. The figurative design shows a family scene following the aesthetic characteristic of the porcelain of this period. The combination of this material with lacquer achieves greater durability and a refined appearance.
This piece is not only a magnificent example of Chinese culture and its traditions, but it becomes an exceptional and novel element for your home decoration.
