Swanky vintage 1970s pod chair recliner and ottoman manufactured by Selig Imperial in Sweden during the 1970s. Classic, timeless, sleek modern style that will look just as cool 40 years from now. The reclining chair tilts back and swivels. A knob under the chair controls the tension of the recline mechanism. The original material appears to either a high quality black vinyl or Naugahyde.
The metal star-shaped bases are wrapped in a faux rosewood veneer. The metal bases won't crack or damage like wood, so they're sure to stand the test of time. The Egg Chair design provides maximum support without compromising style. Seriously, this chair is nearly a 10 out of 10 when it comes to comfort.
Selig was founded by Mendell Selig and Samuel Wexler in Gardner, Massachusetts, USA in 1931. In the 1950s, the company grew to become one of America's leading importers and manufacturers of contemporary furniture. The company focused on high-end projects, manufactured in Denmark and other Scandinavian countries. Their offer consisted of the simple, elegant forms typical of post-war Danish design. Selig is responsible for introducing the American public to many Scandinavian designers and popularizing the modern, future-oriented interior style that became common in the US in the post-war period.
We replaced the ottoman cushion and back cushion with new black vinyl upholstery and foam. One of the arms had a tiny rip that we repaired (see pic).
