Made with hand-knotted wool in Turkey circa 1950-1950, this 4x5 vintage tribal rug is an exciting new curation from Rug & Kilim’s repertoire of rare mid-century rugs.

Admirers of Caucasian carpets will note this exceptional vintage tribal Kazak design. The commanding navy field hosts three masterfully rendered medallions in burnt sienna, each anchored by distinctive azure crosses—a hallmark of the region's weaving style. Keen observers will note the sophisticated use of negative space in the abrash-rich border, where stepped geometric motifs in gold ochre create a mesmerizing cadence against sage green florettes. The piece's tribal iconography is particularly compelling in the secondary borders, where stylized motifs alternate in a rhythm. The angular bird-like figures flanking each medallion demonstrate the reinterpretation of tribal motifs without compromising their classic essence.
