Small zoomorphic ceramic jug or milk jug glazed and decorated entirely by hand with airbrush, in the shape of a … Read more Small zoomorphic ceramic jug or milk jug glazed and decorated entirely by hand with airbrush, in the shape of a penguin with lid, signed under the base "SE z" and made by Marcel Sandoz. The object can be dated to the first half of the 20th century, between 1920 and 1950, as confirmed by the wonderful patina, combined with a slight craquelure present on the belly of the penguin and under the base.

Artist and/or Manufacture Information:
Born in Basel in 1881, around the mid-1930s the sculptor Edouard Marcel Sandoz, after having worked at the Haviland manufactory in Limoge, collaborated for a few years, as a ceramist-modeler, with the "Richard-Ginori" manufactory of artistic ceramics in Doccia, in the creation of some porcelain works designed by the factory's artistic director architect Giò Ponti. An animalist of great sensitivity, he died in Switzerland in 1971.
