The two extravagant pillar cabinets, made in Vienna around 1905, represent first-class cabinetmaking work from Viennese Modernism and impress with their elegant design and high quality craftsmanship. They are made of oak wood and have an elaborate shellac polish, which gives the cabinets an elegant, deep glossy surface. The decorative elements are characterized by floral motifs, which are expressed both in the carved wooden details and in the artfully crafted and lavish brass ornaments. Cut glasses in the upper sections of the cabinets underline the delicate design of the details. The clear lines combined with the floral decorations reflect the typical style of the Vienna Secession, in which functionality and artistic expression merge harmoniously. These pieces of furniture are outstanding examples of the combination of craftsmanship and design in the Viennese art scene of the early 20th century. less
