The large scale of the tapestry, substantial Belgian wood and plaster frame, and juxtaposition of bright and earthy colors make a statement piece of this needlepoint.
The left margin of the needlepoint is numbered 171-85. 'JB Huet' is printed along the lower margin, and Royal Paris along the right edge (see last photo). A small remnant of a label on the wooden frame reads 'Made in Belgium'.
Yarn colors include but are not limited to olive, army green, goldenrod, mustard, bright orange, blush, pink, raspberry, turquoise, lavender, and taupe.
JB Huet (1745-1811) was an eighteenth-century painter, engraver, and designer best known for his animal, nature, and pastoral scenes in the Rococo manner, influenced by François Boucher. less
