Handkerchief blown Murano glass vase, made entirely by hand with murrine with a type of decoration called millefiori, unsigned and … Read more Handkerchief blown Murano glass vase, made entirely by hand with murrine with a type of decoration called millefiori, unsigned and datable to around the mid-20th century. The vase is unsigned but, in our opinion, can be attributed to Ercole Barovier, in fact, if you look at the last photo, the shape of the murrine on Ercole Barovier's small cruet, which went to auction, is identical to that of the murrine used for our vase, although with different colors.
Murrines are glass dowels of various shapes made by cross-cutting glass rods made from glass of various colors embedded in each other. These murrine are then joined one by one by heat in the kiln to create the vase, the final shape of which will then be obtained by shaping this glassy body, obtained precisely by joining the murrine, giving it the desired shape and marbling it several times on the "bronzìn" (metal plane) using pliers and other metal tools. The Murrine then, will stretch or contract, more or less depending on how much they are "pulled" to give the final shape to the vase. Consider that murrine vases are usually not signed, because of the great irregularity of the vase's outer surface, which prevents the diamond-pointed signature from being made. This piece is attributed to the mentioned designer/maker. It has no attribution mark and no
official proof of authenticity,
