The two-leaf door from the 16th century has typical features of this era, in particular the robust construction and the material used is iron. In the 16th century, heavy, ornate metal doors were often relied upon in castles, fortresses and even churches to ensure safety and security. These doors were often reinforced to withstand attacks and were also often signs of wealth and power.
The diagonal reinforcements in an "X" pattern visible in the picture were a common design to increase the structural integrity of the door. This type of door could have been used in various contexts, e.g. B. in a castle, fortress or important building that required special security measures. This door came from a pharmacy in Klagenfurt Austria. If you visit the country house in Klagenfurt, you will find similar doors in the guest room and in the ladle.
Such doors not only played a functional role, but often also a symbolic one: they signaled strength and impenetrability, in keeping with the social and political conditions of the 16th century, when Europe was characterized by wars and power struggles. less
