Imari-styled porcelain art has its origins in the 17th century when a Korean craftsman named Yi Sam-pyeong, who was kidnapped during the Japanese invasion of Korea in 1598, discovered a deposit of kaolin in the Arita region in 1616. Yi managed to use Korean firing techniques and produced a porcelain material with a strong Chinese influence in its designs, using blue and white. less
