Alex Gonzales specializes in abstract human images and landscapes in oil, acrylic and collage.
Gonzales graduated from the San Francisco Art Institute and subsequently earned a BA from the College of Arts and Craft and an MA from San Francisco State. He taught art at San Francisco State University and at the American Federation of Arts.
Gonzales settled on the Monterey Peninsula in 1962, where he has served as the Chairman of the Art Department at the Monterey Peninsula College. Alex Gonzales first became an artist member of the Carmel Art Association in 1961 and remained a member there until 1971. He rejoined that organization again in 1976 and has been a member since then. He served on their Board of Directors in 1969-70, and again in 1988.
Gonzales' works may be found in numerous permanent collections, including those of the Monterey Peninsula Museum of Art, the Museum of Contemporary California Art, the Lytton Corporation, and the Fisher-Price Collection. He has exhibited widely and with success including at the Monterey Museum of Art, the Carmel Art Association Gallery, the San Jose Art Center, and the Richmond Art Center among others. less
