Bjørn Wiinblad (1918 - 2006) was a Danish painter, designer, set designer and visual artist. from a very early age he showed signs of his talent for drawing and creating imaginative worlds. At the age of 17 he began an apprenticeship as a typographer, but soon realized that his heart beat for art. from 1940 to 1943 he studied painting and illustration at the Royal Danish Academy of Art in Copenhagen. Since 1957, Wiinblad was chief designer at Rosenthal AG for over 49 years. Although Bjørn Wiinblad was born in Copenhagen, his style was anything but Danish. While functionalism dominated Denmark, Wiinblad's works were dominated by bold colors and outlined figures with large, round faces with saucer eyes and pointed noses, often in a natural setting with delicate vines, flower wreaths and stylized trees
