Rare 'Arca' sculptural object designed by Giuseppe Rivadossi manufactured by Officina Rivadossi, Italy 1975. Rivadossi often creates artwork that reflects his thoughts and favourite themes. One theme he loves is the story of Noah's Ark, a famous biblical tale about saving animals and people from a great flood. In his art, Rivadossi uses shapes that look like arches. These shapes represent the protection of life. They cradle life, just like how seeds hold the potential for new growth and vitality. This piece is a beautiful version of the 'Arca' made from cherry wood. It features 4 doors with hollow space inside, perfect for storing small items. Giuseppe Rivadossi (Nave, 1935) cabinet maker and sculptor. His first solo exhibition was in 1968. In 1978 he founded the Officina Rivadossi, where with a group of collaborators he started the production of wood objects and furniture. Many shows have been dedicated to his work throughout the years. In the spring of 2005 the Museum Palazzo Forti in Verona organized an important anthology exhibition of his pieces, presented by Giorgio Cortenova. Today he runs the laboratory Giuseppe Rivadossi where he develops projects and produces pieces for interiors. Wood is the main material used in the laboratory, always with maximum respect for its characteristics. Assemblage and block carving are the techniques adopted. Giuseppe Rivadossi’s work is aimed at creating a poetic domestic space, at serving and humanizing space with new structures linked to ancient traditions. This piece is attributed to the mentioned designer/maker. It has no attribution mark and no
official proof of authenticity,
however it is well documented in design history. I take full responsibility for any authenticity
issues arising from misattribution less
