Made with handwoven wool in Turkey circa 1950-1960, this vintage 9x15 kilim is a particularly exciting, rare find in Rug & Kilim’s collection of panel-woven Kilims.
On the Design:
In this piece, the weavers—likely tribal nomads—combine multiple long-narrow columns (or panels) into a larger Kilim. Here, a rich red tone underscores a plaid-like play of stripes in blue, green, and orange. Admirers of the craft will note the exceptional condition of this piece, as well as the especially saturated, beautiful and bright hues at play, like few even for this provenance known for its light and whimsical pieces.
