One is visible on the right arm where … moreThis chair appears to be in original condition excepting for two repairs. One is visible on the right arm where it connects to the chair-back. This repair is antique itself and somewhat adds to the charm of the piece. When we acquired the chair, there was a crack in top of the arch of the chair-back. This was repaired by an antique restoration professional (John Hobe) about a decade ago. He did not speculate on the exact vintage of the piece but suggested that we do right by the chair because it deserved to be repaired. That we did. The repair is hardly visible less

Its provenance is not known. By all appearances, we believe it was built in the 18th century or first half of the 19th century. We acquired it in a Philadelphia antique shop about 30 years ago. It may well have been made in Philadelphia. There is no maker mark. less
