Arita Ware, Asuka Kiln
Rich Gold, Blue, Red Design (Japan, c 1980s)
This intensely decorated bowl is classic Imari Arita Ware (Arita-yaki). A lot of googling led me to identify the mark as produced by Asuka Kiln. Honestly, I have not been able to pin down a date (the 1980s in the title is my best guess--but the bowl could be much older, I'm just not sure). The bowl is nicely shaped, with 8 sides (octagonal), with indentions on the exterior highlighting each side. The interior has a brilliant red and gold floral design, with 8 panels that alternate between flowers and a bird (perhaps a phoenix). The exterior has large red flowers with blue and gold leaves.
The bowl measures 7-3/8 inches wide across the rim, 2-3/8 inches high at the rim, and about 3-7/8 inches wide across the foot ring. It is in excellent condition, with no chips, cracks, crazing, or wear that I can see.
The bottom (foot) has an in-glaze marks that google tells me is "Arita-yaki Asuka Kiln." (Please note that, for US buyers, USPS Priority Delivery is included in the price.) less
