This pair of antique bronze sconces show the move of design away from neoclassical and Williamsburg styles and towards the art deco era. While no makers mark appears on them, they are thought to have been made by Edward F. Caldwell & Co., which was a premier lighting designer and manufacturer of late 19th and early 20th century. Based in New York, their fixtures lit homes of the rich and famous and public buildings like St. Patrick's Cathedral. Caldwell sconces are desirable collectors items and go for high prices.
These antique sconces are in superb original condition and have been fully rewired. They have their original sockets with pull chains, and handsome, smooth golden resin candle covers.
