Paul Wear, a contemporary abstract painter, was born in the Midwest and grew up on the East Coast. He found his passion for painting in community college and studied at the University of Maryland. Since the mid-1990s, he has lived and worked in Chicago and its suburbs, drawing inspiration from the city's culture, architecture, and energy. His studio is located behind his home in Evanston, IL. Over 30 years, Paul has developed a unique style, juxtaposing bright colors with dark surfaces, flatness with texture, and figurative elements with abstraction. His paintings start as chaotic splashes and build up in layers, with images emerging as he draws into the surface with a needle tool. For Paul, painting is a dynamic conversation with his materials.
