A warm palette of dusty pinks and light purples creates an abstract background, with rich, darker touches of blue, red, and yellow accentuating the objects. Expressionist brushstrokes emphasise the curves and angles of the fabric, box, and cup, while layering textures and colour to add depth. Blending figuration and abstraction, the intimate atmosphere of this dreamlike scene is brought to life through dynamic brushwork. Born in Poland in 1899, Blond moved to Paris in 1924, immersed in the vibrant art scene of Montparnasse among Eastern European painters from the School of Paris, such as Abraham Mintchine and Chaïm Soutine. His work spans dreamy interior scenes and streetscapes, all characterised by expressionist brushwork and vivid colours. Signed at the front and dated 1964, this rare work is mounted in an elegant antique Montparnasse frame. See less
