delicate sculptural group made of enameled porcelain in the mid-20th century signed “algora”. This porcelain sculptural group shows two playful angel sharks, also known as cherubs or putti, in dynamic interaction with a pheasant or similar bird. The figure is carefully modeled, with realistic details in the texture of the bird's feathers and the anatomy of the angel sharks. One of the cherubs appears to caress the animal with his hand, while the other rests on the pheasant, creating an interesting visual balance that suggests movement. Complex composition and enormous dynamism. The chromatic treatment is based on the use of pearly white as a background, to which colored details in very soft tones are added. Hand painted, a fine brush is used for the details of the face. The enamel finish provides a uniform shine and highlights the details. The expression of the cherubs and the naturalness of the scene reflect a baroque style, approaching very close to rococo. Perfection is appreciated in every detail, care and exquisite craftsmanship.
the base has the algora mark made in the underglaze paste, a blue overglaze mark indicating “a hs” and an algora sticker. The sculpture stands on a gilded wooden base. Good condition overall.
vicente sánchez algora was one of the founders and masters behind the renowned spanish artistic porcelain manufacture known as algora, which he founded with his brother manuel in the 1950s. The algora factory gained great renown for its dedication to detail and quality in decorative pieces, especially in its porcelain sculptures, which range from figures of angels to the well-known "fighting roosters". This type of porcelain stands out both for its aesthetic beauty and for its meticulous modeling and finishing work, achieving a distinctive style that has been compared to the best traditions of european artistic ceramics.
the life of vicente sánchez algora was marked not only by his commitment to ceramics, but also by his foray into painting and art in general. Although his main focus was ceramics, throughout his career he also explored other artistic fields, but his passion and dedication to ceramics consumed much of his time and efforts, thus contributing to his legacy as one of the great spanish ceramists of the 20th century. Today, his son manuel sánchez-algora continues to make signature ceramic figures, perpetuating the family legacy.
