The revered American Howell Company somewhere along the line made the decision to design and manufacture a standing ashtray that the world wouldn't forget, and here's their premier accomplishment in that department.
It's made of cast iron and has a gold patina (paint) and is in what this antique dealer thinks of as "very good to excellent" original condition. It weighs a ton. Marked "HOWELL" on the bottom.
Three easily extracted and emptied ashtrays adorn the top, one on each corner of the triangle, watched over by a very proud and alert gazelle.
For those of you who don't smoke, this standing ashtray can happily be employed for other uses, such as an hors d'oeuvres "tray," if you will. There's plenty of room on the top for cheese and crackers, and the ashtrays might hold olives, carrot and celery pieces, you name it. Wouldn't it be a most welcome addition to the party?! (YES!)
The castings are well decorated, lots of geometric flourishes adding lots of dynamic energy. The gazelle, icon of the Art Deco period, adorns the top and serves as a handle for moving the item around. Round off your amazing Art Deco collection with this beauty!
Standing 24 inches tall. The base is about 9 inches in diameter, and the top (tray) measures about 11 from the tip of a triangular ash receiver to the opposing flat side. Used and left on its own for years. Which is to say, Fifi the maid didn't get around to dusting or cleaning it. The result? A nice antique patina. The paint's in pretty good shape and you can clean it according to your standards of what an antique should look like.
Easily and quickly disassembled for shipping and equally easily and quickly re-assembled. less
