Red Hot Chili Peppers No. 48 is a unique oil on vinyl painting by German contemporary artist Doris Marten, dimensions are 30 × 30 cm (11.8 × 11.8 in).
The artwork is signed, sold unframed and comes with a certificate of authenticity.
This artwork is part of the series Sound and Vision, the line remains the only motif of the compositions, but it is illustrated on a new medium which is none other than a vinyl disk. In painting on a turntable, the artist transformed these acoustic data carriers into visual aids: as if the musical pieces are replayed with a brush, in a sort of transformation of sound into image.
With the simple use of lines Doris Marten explores the perception of colours and their influence on each other. Line reveal colours individually and they bring to life the effect of one colour upon another. The artist has developed a thorough knowledge of colours which allows her to create optical illusions, impressions of movement and intense variations of light.
The visual effects produced by the harmony between light and colour are explored in Doris Marten's work. Similar to other series, the paintings' primary elements are lines and light. However, a temporal idea that highlights the artist's earlier works enriches the Light'n'Lines series. Time, which is essential to the development of the work, is the raw material for this series. The identical parallel lines that make up the painting personify the temporal dimensions (past, present, and future) as they were being created. Through ongoing experimentation with colour, the artist gives her creations a metaphysical quality. less
