Magnificent museum quality example of French tatting from the early 1800s. The stunning work of art was created by the method known a "tatting" and this is one of the most intricate examples we have seen as most are small circles and resemble doilies. The image is of a French girl in profile with her hair spilling down around her shoulders. She's in a traditional dress from the 1700s. The exquisite craftsmanship of the artist has been preserved for close to 200 years in a blue velvet round box under glass. She's in perfect condition as is the velvet albeit there is a small bit of wear after all this time as with all antiques. One of a kind, remarkable piece that is rare and special.
From France, circa 1800. less
