It became the preeminent porcelain manufacturer in Europe in the second half of the eighteenth century. Louis XV had been an early investor in the fledgling ceramic enterprise and became its sole owner in 1759. It has been owned by the French crown or government since 1759.

This stunning example of a Sevres urn bears the underglazed blue interlocked "L" insignia with the letter "f" signaling the creation of this hand-painted, ormalu guilded piece in 1759.

One side features a cloth draped woman gathering blooms, the opposite side adorned with detailed flowers. Both sides are encircled in gold paint. The piece is signed by the artist NOEL. The ormalu base is stamped FRANCE.
