Wrought iron overshadowed most other mediums during the Deco period. The work of luminaries and design geniuses like Edgar Brandt, Paul Kiss, and Michel Zadounaisky stole the show, but there were many other artists whose work is compelling but whose names are lost to history.
This light is a good example of wrought iron created for the modest French home (anywhere outside of Paris!). Unassuming as it is, it commands our attention just by its simplicity and elegance. The iron is hammered throughout and the patina original and in excellent condition. The leafy socket covers, stationed just above the top of the shades, bring that little bit of the natural world into the presentation, obligatory for most French products!
The Schneider shades are top drawer! Fabulous Deco designs, lots of dimension in the pressed glass, and they’re signed ever-so-cleverly along the edge of one of the fanciful designs, about halfway up from the bottom. No condition “issues.”
