Cylindrical white cup, the upper part wrapped in a cobalt blue band as a background for delicate gold painting: oval … more Cylindrical white cup, the upper part wrapped in a cobalt blue band as a background for delicate gold painting: oval medallions and diamond surrounded by dense feather and berry tendrils, heightened with delicate dainty gold impasto, below the cobalt a wider gold band with impasto gold-on-gold painting, below that a golden garland of feather leaves and berries in the style of an arched frieze, and a gold rim at the bottom edge. Edged, gilded handle in J-shape with leaf and bracket end. The cup's decoration is reflected on the saucer, which has a tall, raised rim and a smooth centre: the rim is cobalt blue with medallions and gold decorations, followed by a gold band with impasto painting on the inside of the rim, followed by an arc frieze and a central rosette of feather leaves. Conrad Sörgel von Sorgenthal (1735 Nuremberg - 1805 Vienna) from 1784 until his death he headed the Viennese porcelain manufactory, which under his leadership enjoyed great economic and artistic growth ('painterly period'). Sorgenthal was also the chief official for the state manufacturing system.
